Technical guide

The material.
The light. The mounting.

Guidelines for preparing a fabrication request and choosing the right construction.

Fixings

Direct, on mounting rails
or on stand-offs.

Individual fixing

Each element is installed separately on the support. Positioning, anchors and cable routes are prepared from the artwork. “Without mounting rails” does not necessarily mean without standoff.

Stand-offs

They move the letter away from the façade. The offset can in particular allow halo/backlighting to spread; it depends on the finish, the support and the fixing.

Mounting rails / rails

The letters are grouped on one or more supports. The mounting rails can accommodate the wiring and organise installation. Colour, visibility, sections and fixing points are to be defined.

Folded tray panel

The elements are mounted on a sheet metal face. For Kapella box signs, the construction remains box to box: rear box with returns and fitted front box.

Materials, with no duplicates.

Selection and quoting guidelines
Dibond / aluminium compositeFor cut letters and panels; not offered for channel letters edges. Aluminium faces and composite core. Specify the range, finish, thickness and edge treatment. An opaque face does not diffuse light; a halo/backlighting effect requires a suitable rear system.
PMMA / PlexiglasPMMA is the material family; Plexiglas is a PMMA brand. Specify opaque, transparent, tinted or diffusing, as well as the edge finish and thickness.
PVCSpecify the quality, thickness, surface finish and intended use. A halo/backlighting effect must be assessed together with its mounting and suitable components.
AluminiumFull cut-out or 3D construction. Colour, finish, treatment, assemblies and thickness are defined for the project.

Illuminated face

The light exits through the diffusing face. The material, masking and depth determine the diffusion to be studied.

Backlighting

The light is directed towards the support. Its colour, texture, distance from the sign and any obstacles influence the halo.

Non-illuminated

The product is designed without lighting equipment. Readability relies on the volume, materials, colour and ambient light.

The signage vocabulary in English.

To prepare a brief with an English-speaking partner, here are the equivalents of the terms used in manufacturing files for resellers in Europe and the United Kingdom.

For letters, front-lit refers to front lighting, halo-lit the backlighting and trimless a borderless construction. Attach a visual of the expected result to your request to avoid any ambiguity.
